RCMP will continue to support, however, they have now turned the investigation over to the BC Coroners Service after fire crews discovered a deceased individual inside a home impacted by fire Monday evening in Kelowna.

“The investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroners Service,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey spokesperson for the Kelowna RCMP. “Investigational findings, as a result of a thorough examination of the fire scene, have allowed RCMP to deem the fire, and death, as non-suspicious. The blaze is believed to be accidental in nature.”

(UPDATE: Tuesday, Nov. 21st @ 11:10 a.m.) - Kelowna RCMP is treating the discovery of body in a Rutland home as suspicious.

The unidentified body in the residence located at 1220 Gaggin Road was discovered after the Kelowna Fire Department extinguished a Monday evening fire at the residence.

Cst. Jesse O'Donaghey spoke from the residence on Tuesday, admitting that there wasn't a lot of information available at this time.

Despite treating the death as suspicious, O'Donaghey told reporters that there doesn't appear to be anything suspicious with regards to the fire, even though there was a medical emergency at the same residence only a couple of hours earlier on Monday.

"I don't want to speculate, but there was some information that we have received that the individuals, or the family that resided here, were dealing with a medical emergency yesterday," explained O'Donaghey. "I don't believe that's related to this, but again it's part of our ongoing investigation."

NowMedia will continue to update this story as more information is made available.
