The event many locals have been waiting for is back and bigger than ever, with additional space to dance your heart out.
Denim on the Diamond is stepping up to the plate and bringing their A-Game this year, as a ton of Canadian artists are lined up and ready to hit the stage tonight in Kelowna.
With musicians from country, to alternative-rock, to singer songwriter, there’s virtually something for everyone to enjoy. Not to mention the variety of food trucks, games, and local vendors to hit up while you're in the ballpark.
“Originally the name denim was to be all genres, all generations, all genders. You know no matter what kind of music you listen to, people wear denim,” said Kurt Jory, Denim on the Diamond Organizer. “This year it’s nice to have a bit more variety of music, something for everyone here.”
After having to cancel last year’s festivities due to the pandemic, people were lined up and excited to get inside dressed in their best denim outfits.
“Music is really what brings us together, but I don't think any of us realized the importance of that social aspect, coming together as a community until it was taken away,” said Jory. “I think everyone is excited to get out, throw some denim on, come have a drink, and support some of our local businesses.”
Weeks of planning went into the event as COVID-19 restrictions made it hard to navigate if the festival would continue, but after Interior Health updated the regions health orders the event was a go for double vaccinated individuals.
“Three weeks ago this wasn't a thing, but thanks to the great work of Mitch and Kurt, Interior Health, and the City of Kelowna we’ve been able to make this possible,” said Colin Basran, Mayor of Kelowna.
“I also want to give a huge shoutout to those who are double vaccinated and are able to attend this event. I think they’re doing the right thing and they’re looking out for themselves, their loved ones, our community. As a result of doing the right thing they can attend an event like this,” said Basran.
Today the Hunter Brothers, Dear Rouge, Yukon Blonde, Moontricks, The Royal Foundry, Shawnee Kish, and Teigen Gayse all take the stage to get the community together in a night of toe tappin' fun.
