Just because the news was expected doesn’t make it any easier.

The organizers of Denim on the Diamond have officially cancelled the country music festival in Kelowna this year.

This year would have been the third annual edition of the single-day event and Juno-nominated The Reklaws were set to headline the show.

“All of our denim face masks and collective wishful thinking wasn't enough to squash COVID-19 in time to host the festival this year,” said a release from organizers.

“The fact is that an order remains from the BC Health Authority stating no festivals or events (greater than 50 people) will be taking place this summer.”

Anyone who had already bought their passes will get an automatic refund back onto the card they used to purchase the tickets.

They should arrive back on that card within the next week, but if they don’t, you’re encouraged to send an email to denimonthediamond@gmail.com.

As for what’s next for the organizers of Denim on the Diamond, who also had to cancel their inaugural AltiTunes Music Festival four months ago, that’s up in the air.

“If you know anything about us, hopefully it's the fact that we will find a way to safely produce live music events because we have seen first hand how the power of music connects communities,” their release said.

“We are grateful for the success Denim experienced over it's short tenure, extremely thankful to have such an amazing community and we are hopeful that you will attend and support us in the future when the show eventually goes on.”
