Anyone who does their grocery shopping at the Safeway in Dilworth Centre will soon have to find a new spot for a few months.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, the store will be one of six Safeways across the province that will close down for four to five months of renovations.

Until then, you'll find plenty of great sales as the store tries to clear out its inventory before shutting its doors until the spring.

When the locations do reopen in the spring, they’ll be rebranded as FreshCo, which is Sobeys discount supermarket chain.

"At FreshCo, we are committed to providing our customers the freshest foods at a price that can’t be beat,” said a statement from Sobeys.

“Our customers have access to fresh food items and produce, while also offering a variety of multicultural foods. FreshCo’s low prices and diverse product offering will help customers in our communities make every dollar count.”

The company also confirmed that it would ensure the conversions won’t impact pharmacy customers.

“We will continue to operate temporary pharmacy locations while renovations and construction are underway,” said the statement.

“The FreshCo locations will open with pharmacy departments where our customers can expect the same great service from our pharmacy teams.”

Sobeys will work with employees and unions to ensure the terms of their collective agreements are met as the company works through this transition.

Vernon, Kamloops, Powell River, Williams Lake and 100 Mile House will also see their Safeways turned into FreshCos over the next 10 months.

The exact opening dates for all six stores will be announced as they are confirmed.
