A Kelowna driver is lucky to be alive after crashing into a power pole and knocking live lines onto the road.
The 26-year-old failed a breath test when police arrived at the scene in the 200 block of Valley Road.
It happened at about 3:35 pm on Feb. 15.
Officers immediately requested that BC Hydro disable the power after the live lines were strewn across the road following the crash.
After being told by witnesses that the man had been driving erratically, police arrested him.
He was unhurt, but officers said he showed signs of intoxication.
The driver then failed a breath test.
“The RCMP wish to thank those motorists who came forward to report the erratic driving behaviour,” said Sgt Mark Booth of the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Services.
“This driver is extremely fortunate that his actions didn’t result in the death of himself or someone else.”
He has been issued with a driving prohibition and will appear in court on June 18.
