Two men who were arrested minutes after a truck was stolen in Kelowna have been charged with theft.

They are accused of taking a Ford pickup truck from outside a home on Hollywood Road South on Wednesday evening.

Police said the owner of the truck “believed he had heard the vehicle being started,” prompting him to look outside and see the vehicle being driven away.

He immediately called the RCMP.

Police said: “Within minutes, officers with the Kelowna RCMP Target Team located the vehicle and followed it to a gas station in the 2100-block of Springfield Road where they arrested the driver and passenger without incident.”

The men were held before appearing in court.

“The owner was extremely grateful for the quick recovery of his truck,” Cpl. Guillaume Tanguay said.

“The quick response and arrests of these two subjects shows the dedication of officers to curb criminal activity within the community and reduce property crimes.”

One man, accused of being the driver arrested in the stolen truck, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instrument and two breaches of court orders.

The other, accused of being a passenger in the truck, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instrument, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of a court order.

Both men have been released pending their next court appearances.
