Early morning collision sends motorcyclist to hospital

A motorcyclist is in hospital after being struck by an SUV on Thursday morning.

The incident happened at the intersection of Richter Street and Bernard Avenue at approximately 6 a.m.
 

According to witnesses and the parties involved, the motorcyclist was heading north on Richter Street while the grey Hyundai was travelling west on Bernard Avenue.

The SUV accidentally ran the red light and struck the motorcyclist, a 51-year-old man, sending him into the sidewalk on the southwest corner of the intersection.

The woman driving the SUV remained on scene and was visibly upset over the ordeal.

Her car only had minor damage to the front bumper.

A number of bystanders stepped in to assist the injured biker before emergency personnel arrived.

In total, three police cars, an ambulance and a fire truck all responded to the scene and the 51-year-old was transferred to hospital with what’s believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
