A fire that started at George Elliot Secondary School in Lake Country last night has been extinguished.

Central Okanagan Public Schools said the blaze was restricted to the “roof and exterior wall of the auxiliary gymnasium outside the girl’s changeroom.”

“We will work with the fire department to mitigate the limited damage to the school and expect that this event will not affect the return to school in September,” the organization added.

In an update on the fire late last night, the District of Lake Country urged residents to stay away from Bottom Wood Lake Road.

A further update on the damage to the building is expected today.
