UPDATE: Crews extinguish fire at apartment building on Sutherland

(Update) Firefighters have extinguished a small blaze that started this afternoon at an apartment building on Sutherland.

According to a NowMedia reporter on the scene, witnesses are saying that a lit cigarette in a garbage can started the fire. 

Residents were evacuated and there appears to be significant damage to the balcony of an apartment. A occupant of the building also tossed a chair over the balcony that was on fire.

Kelowna fire crews are responding to fire on Sutherland Avenue this afternoon. 

Smoke was spotted coming from an apartment building this afternoon, but appears to be dissipating.
