Several delays and cancellations are occurring at the YLW Kelowna International Airport due to the heavy snowfall that started this morning.

Currently, six arriving flights have been cancelled and more than seven are delayed.

"Flights have been cancelled due to low visibility, not because the conditions of the runway," said Lori Seemann, airport duty manager.

"Operation crews continue to clear the runway. We've been working since the snow started snow falling at 4 a.m."

Flights were able to take off earlier this morning, when visibility was not an issue.

"By 7:30 a.m. we started to have low visibility issues and flights couldn't arrive, which means departures can't run as well."

These delays and cancellations are impacting flights later in the day.

For now, operations are waiting for the visibility and the snow to clear up and they're expecting this to happen later this evening.

During the month of January, more than 176,000 passengers passed through the YLW airport.
