It’s been six years since Kelowna’s Floyd Meets Brown first decided to combine powers and start a band.
“We actually first formed while hanging out in a field at Salmon Arm Roots and Blues festival,” laughed frontman Josh Loewen.
“It was a very organic process between four friends that quickly turned into a real project.”
Since 2013, the passion project has taken Floyd Meets Brown to venues across BC and into the recording studio for a live album and two single releases.
However, while the support of their fans and the Kelowna music scene has kept the boys together for over a decade, the winds of change are blowing strong enough for the group to move on.
"We're by no means throwing in our 'musical towels' so to speak, but as a flower grows from the ground up and blooms, eventually the pedals will fall leaving room for new buds to grow and one day bloom," said Loewen.
"This particular story is about to conclude, although, there is yet a final chapter to be written by Floyd Meets Brown."
That final chapter will come in two parts, beginning with the band performing for Parks Alive this Thursday, Aug. 22, at Blair Pond Park.
The grande finale will be written at Fernando’s this Saturday, Aug. 24, when several local musicians will join the band on stage throughout the evening to make the show a little extra special.
It’s a way for the band to say thanks to the local scene that played an integral role in Floyd Meets Brown’s musical evolution.
“When I first moved here there was literally no music scene and these days there is so much talent in this town,” explained Loewen.
“That foundation that began at the Grateful Fed jam nights and inspired an entire era of amazing bands between roughly 2011 and 2015, it was a very special time for music in Kelowna."
While Loewen maintains Kelowna is lucky to have such a vibrant music scene, there’s always a little room for improvement.
“Personally, I would like to see the city invest in a once a year local showcase, above and beyond Parks Alive, which is already a great local event," said Loewen.
“An app advertising all local entertainment and art events in the city that both tourists and locals can easily use would be nice to see too.”
For those interested in getting groovy one more time with Floyd Meets Brown this Saturday, Aug. 24, the show starts at 9 pm and goes till late.
