Halloween is creeping up, and a few locals are hard at work setting up a house of terrors for the community to enjoy.
Grenfell Road Haunted House is set to return for its fourth year of spooky fun.
The haunted house began as a yard display for creator and mastermind Paul Coxe. With the help of friends and family, he sets up a labyrinth filled with props, actors and animatronics.
Clarence Johnson, a friend of Coxe and a helper with the haunted house, says that Coxe is still battling his illness.
“He's still struggling,” Johnson says. “His illness is still taking a toll on his body, but he's determined to put this haunted house on.”
Visitors at this year’s house can look forward to brand new props and a totally different setup. They’ve also added more non-scary times so that young families can come out and enjoy some spooky entertainment.
Scary haunted house times will take place on October 25, 26, 27 and 31 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Non-scary times will be on October 25, 26, and 27 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., and on the 28 29, and 30 from 4:30 p.m. 7 p.m. The final non-scary time will be on the 31 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Not only can you have a good time with your friends and family, it’s for a good cause as well. Donations of cash and food for the local food bank will be accepted at the site.
Last year, they managed to raise $13,000 worth in cash and food items combined. They had 4,000 people go through the house last year, and they're hoping to get more visitors this year.
"Come out and get scared!" says Johnson.
