A blast of snow has created significant traffic issues around the Central Okanagan.

Motorists are reporting icy roads throughout Kelowna and West Kelowna, with most serious issues centring around Hwy 97.

Traffic has been paralyzed in the vicinity of the Bennett Bridge for most of the evening.

It's westbound traffic having more issues, as the climb up an icy Bridge Hill is causing trouble for traffic of all sizes.

"It’s the kind of snow (that) if you have to stop, you can’t get going again, as it’s icy," wrote one Kelowna resident on Facebook, noting that the conditions were creating "chaos" on the road.

DriveBC cameras across the bridge have been disabled for several days, offering no assistance to drivers trying to check the conditions for themselves.

However, recent comments on social media suggest that the conditions and traffic flow around the bridge are starting to show signs of improvement.

A Glenrosa resident told KelownaNow that there was an accident on the hill near Gorman Hill, while Drought Hill on the other side of the Hwy 97-Hwy 97C interchange has reportedly been treacherous all night as well.

Snow is expected to continue falling on and off throughout the evening, likely turning to wet flurries or showers on Wednesday.
