A rezoning application for a large industrial project was moved forward during this week’s regular council meeting.

On Monday, Kelowna council gave initial consideration to a rezoning for a property north of Ellison Lake and just off Jim Bailey Road.

The 63,000 square foot industrial project would include three buildings ranging from 17,380 square feet, to 22,320 square feet and 23,300 square feet.

Following a unanimous vote, Kelowna council supported rezoning 2790 Hiram Walker Court from the I3 – Heavy Industrial zone to the I2 – General Industrial zone to allow for the project.

Dean Strachan, community planning and development manager, told council this zone will allow for more industrial uses to be permitted on the property.

Next steps will see council give second and third readings to the rezoning before adopting the new zoning bylaw for the property.

After that, if approved, the project will move to the development permit stage.
