Only a day after it started to promote a unique, physically distanced, poolside concert, the Coast Capri Hotel was ordered by Interior Health to cancel it.
The hotel didn't want to comment about the situation or second guess the health authority, so it simply announced the cancellation.
An official from Interior Health phoned hotel manager Dale Sivucha to inform him the concert contravened the health authority's 'no events' policy during COVID.
In a news release originally announcing the May 15 concert by the Anna Jacyszyn Quartet, the hotel billed it as "the perfect idea for a change of environment, while still adhering to the Interior Health rules as a result of the global pandemic."
The hotel thought it was following regulations by socially distancing people for dinner and the concert at poolside tables and on hotel room balconies for people opting for the overnight, "Stay-Cay" package.
The concept piqued the public's attention and 50 bookings were made over a short period.
All the bookings have now been cancelled.
The Vintner's Grill remains open for patio and poolside breakfasts and lunches as the province's COVID ban on indoor restaurant dining continues.
