Travis Andrews, a competitive slam poet, and Aileé Zaga, an art pop electronica artist, have partnered to organize an event that celebrates local artists who exist between genres.

Island of Misfit Toys: A Night of Experimental Music will feature a selection of seven acts from Kelowna’s underground music scene at Dunnenzies Downtown on June 9 from 9 pm to midnight.

“If people are looking for an event for artists who otherwise might not have somewhere to express themselves, this is it,” Andrews explains.

“Creating a space for people to come and showcase themselves and be expressive is very important to the two of us, particularly as we both have found ourselves ‘between genres’ for so long.”

The event will showcase Kelowna’s offbeat talent, genre-bending acts and community art.

Those performing include Celeste Noir, Ben Shipley, Voice of Joopiter, Sunbo World, Kinfolk Nation, Frantic and Aileé Zaga.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite for $22.63.
