JCI Kelowna made history on over the weekend.

The organization elected Danielle Hofer as its new president, the first female president in the chapter’s history.

"This was an important night for gender equality,” said Hofer.

“I am honoured to be elected the first female president of this chapter and I couldn't be more honoured to be building on the amazing work the women and men have done to get us to this point.”

Hofer will assume office on Jan. 1, 2020 and will continue her role as the chapter’s vice-president until then.

When she assumes the position in the new year, she’ll become JCI Kelowna’s 85th president.

“She has been an integral part of the organization and I look forward to what she’s bringing to the role in 2020,” said Trevor McTavish, the current president who Hofer will take the reigns from.

JCI Kelowna changed its bylaws to include women in 2016 after the women’s chapter of JCI Okanagan folded.

It provides a place for young active citizens to grow as individuals and leaders while positively impacting the community.
