The Kelowna Fire Department was called out to a house fire in Rutland this morning.

It happened shortly before 10 am at a “multi-family residence” in the 300 block of Fizet Avenue, the KFD said.

“The first arriving officer was met by a resident who advised of a fire in the garage of the residence that was now out,” explained a KFD release.

“Fire was mostly out and smoldering, crews completed extinguishment and ventilated the structure.”

Fortunately, the fire was contained to just the garage.

There was only one minor injury to report, as a resident suffered second-degree burns to his hands trying to extinguish the fire.

Another resident suffered minor smoke inhalation.

They were both treated at the scene by fire crews and paramedics.

The KFD has deemed the fire accidental.
