KFD able to quickly extinguish Saturday night garage fire

The Kelowna Fire Department were able to quickly extinguish a fire engulfing the garage of a two-storey home in the Upper Mission on Saturday night.

At 9 pm an 18 person crew along with four engines, a rescue unit and a command vehicle arrived at the residence on Woodridge Rd to visible smoke and flames.

Quick work by responders made it possible to contain the blaze to the garage, however, migrating smoke did cause damage within the interior of the home before it the fire was snuffed out. 

The two occupants were home at the time the fire started and were able to make it out safely. Their two cats were later located inside, also uninjured. 

Fortis gas and electric along with local RCMP and members from the BC Ambulance Service were also on scene. 

At this time, the fire is being deemed as not suspicious but will be investigated by Kelowna Fire Department investigators.
