The environmental science students at Kelowna Secondary School are hosting Climate Friday, an event to support the global climate strikes taking place around the world.
The school says they were unable to attend the protests or participate due to the public health regulations and COVID-19.
So after two weeks of discussing, the students created a tree to get the younger generation involved.
“We created a 12-foot tall Minecraft tree made entirely of recycled materials and we went to all of the classes in our school and got them all to write little notes responding to questions we asked them, just about the climate crisis that is currently happening,” says Gracie Teslyk, KSS student.
Margett told KelownaNow that she is proud that her students are inspired and taking action.
“We had 28 individuals going class to class asking students to write a message on a leaf and we have over 1800 students so we probably have a thousand leaves on there,” says environmental science teacher Dayna Margett.
