The City of Kelowna and Festivals Kelowna have made a joint decision on the postponement of Canada Day this year.
With Phase three of the restart plan permitting large outdoor gatherings starting July 1 at the earliest, it’s too close of a call for the city to promise such a big event.
The Kelowna Canada Day celebration is estimated to be one of the largest in the province with over 65,000 guests attending each year.
With Canada's 153 birthday happening on July 1, Festivals Kelowna is encouraging smaller groups to still go out and celebrate in local restaurants, breweries, and wineries to support businesses who’ve struggled through the pandemic.
They hope to bring back the Canadian festivities in 2022, but are working on producing a celebration in the Fall when restrictions are eased to bring the community back together.
They’re hoping that the fall festival will include live music, games, food, and Festivals Kelowna hinted at the possibility of fireworks.
Although Canada Day won’t be happening on a large scale this year, Festivals Kelowna is still rolling out other smaller scale events.
