Kelowna’s Dragon Boat Paddling Society recently brought home the silver medal at the BC Senior Games in Cranbrook.

The mixed team, given the name “Lift What’s Draggin’,” participated in the games from Sept. 12-15, paddling the Wasa Lake between Cranbrook and Kimberley.

The BC Senior Games is a 55+ event, and the average age on the Lift What’s Draggin’ team is 71-years-old.

A total of nine teams participated in the event,  five of which were women’s teams and four that were mixed teams.

"Of course we were aiming for gold but our silver medal win was a great accomplishment and we are thrilled!" says Corinne Almas, the team coach and drummer for Kelowna’s Lift What’s Draggin’.

The BC Seniors Games will be heading to Kelowna in September 2019. Almas says that it is anticipated that there will be great participation at next year’s Dragon Boat event.

Lift What's Draggin trains twice a week on Okanagan Lake. They also attended festivals this year in Vancouver, Kamloops, and Penticton. They would have participated in the Kelowna festival as well this summer, but the smokey skies forced organizers to cancel the 2018 event.

"In Both Kamloops and Penticton we posted our best race times ever so we were very pumped and ready for the BC 55+ Games in Cranbrook. This is a very dedicated, committed and organized team of athletes and so worthy of their accomplishments," says Almas.
