After weeks of preparation, more than 50 volunteers are ready to serve nearly 700 Christmas dinners at the Kelowna Gospel Mission on Saturday.
Meals are served at no cost between noon and 6 p.m. and are available to anyone in the community — not only the homeless.
People from throughout the Central Okanagan are expected to partake of the Gospel Mission’s traditional Christmas meal.
The meal includes turkey with stuffing, ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls and pie topped with whipped cream.
“The holidays can be a tough time for people who are without a home. They are missing their families and often suffer with intense feelings of sadness and loneliness," explained Randy Benson, executive director of the Gospel Mission. "This meal surrounds our guests with people who care deeply.
“We meet and laugh together with friends. And even if just for a few hours, we forget our worries and have fellowship and a sense of belonging. The generous people in the Kelowna area make this special meal possible.”
You’ll recognize some of the volunteers too, as Colin Basran, Ryan Donn, Maxine DeHart, Stephen Fuhr, Dan Albas, Norm Letnick and Steve Thomson are all a part of the volunteer team.
