To celebrate the hard work done by local non-profit and social service agencies, the Kelowna Gospel Mission (KGM) hosted their 8th annual Well Done BBQ on Wednesday afternoon.
It's considered a "Thank You" to the staff of the various agencies for their work at running programs to keep guests of places like the Gospel Mission and Cornerstone safe and on track to achieving their goals.
The KGM grilled up some burgers and hosted an open lunch in the sunshine.
According to Chris Moffat, Casework and Outreach Manager for the KGM, the local agency makes contact with about 8,000 people a year.
From there, guests and caseworkers work together to connect them with the support they need within the community, whether it be housing, addiction counseling or medical support.
Each year the Kelowna Gospel Mission will help to house 100 to 350 individuals with the support of the community.
"It's why I'm here after seven years," said Moffat "Seeing people housed after decades of living outside is a powerful moment."
The event not only welcomed staff of agencies like John Howards Society and the KGM, but to guests as well, offering up an opportunity to interact in a more social setting.
"It is rare as a community outreach worker to just sit and talk, it's a nice opportunity for people to just be human and experience fellowship," added Moffat.
