Two people have been arrested and given a court date after allegedly stealing a Kelowna RCMP bait vehicle Friday morning.

In a news release, Mounties say they were notified that the bait vehicle was moving near the Dilworth Drive area.

One male driver and female passenger were arrested for theft of a motor vehicle.

Mounties say the man is a known property crime offender.

As officers searched the vehicle, they found a taser in a fanny pack on the floor. Police say the two suspects also caused extensive damage to the doors and ignition.

The man is being held in custody until his court date. The woman was released with an appearance notice to attend court at a later date.

Corporal Guillaume Tanguay says the arrest was made through teamwork between the city’s Proactive Enforcement Unit, who set up the car in a “hot spot” for property crime, and frontline officers.
