The Kelowna RCMP are expecting a peaceful gatherings at 420 events held across the city today, much like in previous years.

Officers will be monitoring roadways today for drivers under the influence of cannabis and or other intoxicating substances.

“Our main goal is that any events are held in a peaceful, safe and secure manner, and we often do so by monitoring the gatherings,”  says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP.

“At any time, our officers can pursue enforcement actions if they deem it necessary to maintain public safety and enforce the law.”

O’Donaghey says that the RCMP would like to remind Canadians that production or trafficking of cannabis, providing cannabis to minors and of course driving or having care or control of a motor vehicle while impaired by cannabis remains illegal in Canada and constitute criminal offences.

Anyone planning to use cannabis is encouraged to take steps to plan for a safe ride home.
