A Kelowna senior citizen was swindled out of a meaningful gold chain on Wednesday.

The chain, which held the victim’s wedding band alongside her late husband’s wedding band, was allegedly stolen by a pair of women.

RCMP received report of the theft, which occurred in the parking lot of a business in the 1800 block of Dilworth Drive, around noon.

According to the victim, she was in her vehicle when approached by a pair of women who engaged her in conversation.

The ladies “effectively pulled at the senior’s heart string” in what seemed to be a very well rehearsed con.

During the interaction, one of the women reached inside the victim’s vehicle and offered her a gold chain.

Although the victim declined the offer, the suspect still placed it on her neck and in the process, it’s believed she detached the real gold chain from the victim’s neck and walked away.

“It’s very troubling to hear that anyone would intentionally victimize any senior citizen in our community,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“At this time our priorities include, the continued support of our victim who has been traumatized by the loss of an item of immense sentimental value and the continued efforts to locate her stolen jewelry.”

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 or report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
