More than $16 million worth of transportation projects are included in the City of Kelowna's 2018 Financial Plan announced on Thursday.

Among the projects is the design and construction a pedestrian and cycling bridge for UBC Okanagan at a cost of $1.5 million.

Another $70,000 has been put towards the plans for a high-profile pedestrian overpass near the corner of Richter Street and Harvey Avenue, connecting Central Green (former Kelowna Secondary School site) to the downtown area.

More construction will begin on Ethel Street. The $2.1 million Ethel Active Transportation Corridor Phase 4 is set to begin in the spring.

Work will extend from Sutherland Avenue to Cadder Avenue/Springfield Road and will include a complete replacement of underground water and sewer mains, as well as the construction of separated paths for cyclists and pedestrians.

Other notable transportation projects include $754,000 for the Rutland Transit Exchange and an additional $500,000 for  the construction of sidewalks along Hollywood Road in the Rutland area.
