Kelowna residents seem to be taking the COVID-19 pandemic seriously, and are following orders and advice from officials.
Even though another weekend has gone by, police say they haven’t experienced any major issues around social distancing and lack of compliance.
The Kelowna RCMP told NowMedia that while they have received some complaints regarding social distancing and businesses possibly not complying with orders, most citizens are doing what they’re supposed to in order to flatten the curve.
“To date, we have used the opportunities to educate people regarding the requirements and their obligations,” said Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy, a spokesperson for the detachment.
In other parts of the province, police have said that they have had some instances of non-compliance.
The Victoria Police Department said in a statement that officers received nine noise complaints over the weekend, including several house parties.
The City of Vancouver temporarily suspended the license of a Tim Hortons location after issuing several warnings about non-compliance with provincial health orders.
Luckily, local RCMP say that people are cooperating overall.
“Overall, our citizens have shown the social responsibility and community spirit we have come to expect from this community,” said Noseworthy.
Noseworthy added that they are working closely with Interior Heath and the City of Kelowna to ensure that their "response during this difficult time is both measured and necessary."
