In a time where positive influences are more important than ever, a Kelowna company has launched merch in support of the LGBTQ2+ community.
With summer events being cancelled or postponed, this is one way you can show your support while keeping healthcare workers and your community safe.
You Are Collective and local graphic designer, Chris Bingham from Cyan Bold Design, have come together to officially launch The 'Pride 2020' Collection in support of The Bridge Youth + Family Services Etcetera Youth Group.
“The collaborative effort aims to create an impactful and empowering way of supporting and acknowledging the LGBTQ2IA+ community,” said a release from You Are Collective.
You Are Collective owners Rebecca Steinhubl and Michael Nolan launched the #1MillionCampaign in January to fund 1,000,000 counselling sessions across Canada.
After recognizing gaps in the mental health community from living with mental illness themselves, the couple founded You Are Collective in 2018 to help raise awareness and end the stigma against mental health and illness.
To date, they've raised more than $3,000 through apparel, events, workshops, and donations.
The treatment and stigmatization of LGBTQ2+ youth is an issue the trio wants to continue to bring awareness and change to.
Youth in the LGBTQ2+ community face about 14 times the risk of suicide and substance abuse than heterosexual peers, according to CMHA.
You Are Collective says this is why the importance of positive outside influences and a sense of community for these youth is so important.
“The 'Pride 2020' Collection will feature bold and brave designs for you to show your support, come together, and spread the love at an exceptionally extraordinary time in our world,” said You Are Collective.
