Kelowna city councillors have supported a text amendment that will allow Britannia Brewing to increase their floor space.

The matter was supported with a unanimous vote during the Monday council meeting.

This will allow the brewery to increase the allowable floor space from 235 square metres to 300 square metres.

This will allow for the service area to expand to a second-floor mezzanine in the existing building, which would be used during the colder months.

Staff said the slight increase wasn’t expected to impact the surrounding area due to minimal housing near the Jim Bailey Road location.

They also told council there would be no structural changes and the hours of operation would remain the same.

“The additional space will greatly assist our efforts to optimize production efficiency, manage operational costs and expand our capacity, aiding our commitment to the local economy and community,” said the application submitted in July.

“If approved, our goal would be to use the extra space for manufacturing, research and development, private events, additional seating, a takeout kitchen window to access the increased capacity of the picnic area, office space and more storage.”
