A new Impark app has made its way to Kelowna and will change the way you pay for parking throughout the city.
Some drivers, however, have already noticed that they are being ticketed despite having already paid for their parking in Impark lots.
That’s because, right now, the new payment system is running parallel to the old system, at least for the next couple weeks, Brent Lobson of Impark confirmed to NowMedia.
Under the new system, the driver is required to use the hangTag app. Lobson says that payment through both apps should be accepted for the time being until the switch is made.
The hangTag app has already been introduced to parking facilities in Whistler, Vancouver, and the Lower Mainland, and is supposed to allow parkers to conveniently locate parking facilities on a map, view lot details, get driving directions, and pay for parking without going to the meter.
The app also provides an early notification when a session is about to expire, allowing parkers to extend time right from their phone.
He confirmed that drivers should not be issued a ticket if they have paid through either one of the app formats.
However, several Kelowna drivers have come forward saying they have been ticketed despite paying for parking through the new app, although Impark will waive the fees if that is the case.
