A new family-friendly exhibit at the Environmental Education Centre for the Okanagan (EECO) is shedding some light on the world of bats.
‘Bats: Out of the darkness’ highlights bat ecology, biology, habitat needs, conservation and fun bat facts, as well as the important role the flying, primarily nocturnal mammal plays in our environment.
The exhibit can be viewed until mid-July at the EECO in Mission Creek Regional Park, which is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm.
On Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm, there will be special bat-themed drop-in activities, and it is hoped that the exhibit inspires residents to protect bats instead of fear them.
Edu-kit materials have also been created for teachers and educators.
The exhibit was developed by a diverse group of community, regional and Syilx Okanagan partners including the Kelowna Museums Society, Regional District of Central Okanagan, Okanagan National Alliance, Habitat Trust Foundation, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Province of BC and the Okanagan Community Bat program.
