(UPDATE: 11:10 am) - Bread Co has confirmed that its downtown location was the site of a minor fire on Tuesday night.

The fire was contained to a very small area and the smoke damage was minimal, but the eatery will still be closed for clean up on Wednesday.

"The combination of smoke detectors and (the Kelowna Fire Department) saved the day," said a post to the company's Facebook page. "We will reopen Thursday."

(Original story: 6:35 am) - A fire broke out at a restaurant in the 300 block of Bernard Avenue on Tuesday night.

The Kelowna Fire Department was on scene quickly and saw visible flames and smoke inside the building.

“Crews were able to gain access and quickly extinguish the fire,” said a release from the KFD.

“The fire was contained to a counter top food preparation area and three small appliances.”

A speedy response from crews was able to prevent the structure from suffering anything more than a bit of smoke damage.

The fire has already been deemed accidental in nature as well.

Three fire engines and a command vehicle responded to the fire.
