(UPDATE: Oct. 23 @ 3:30 pm) - Darryl Reuter is a man of his word.
The Kelowna realtor put out a challenge to his friends, family and anyone who was listening in September.
His challenge was for people to donate more than $10,000 to his motionball fundraiser.
The incentive was that he would get a large fire-breathing unicorn tattoo, in honour of his motionball team's name, put on his back.
It proved to be more than enough incentive and the $10,000 mark was broken fairly quickly and an impressive $15,777 was raised for Canadian Special Olympics by the time all was said and done.
For Reuter, that meant a visit to Third Son Tattoo owner David Allan, who volunteered his time and skills to make make the 10-inch by 10-inch tattoo a reality.
Allan did a fantastic job and now Reuter has a fire-breathing unicorn on the back of his left shoulder for the rest of his life.
We have to be honest, it looks pretty good and the $15,777 donation to Canadian Special Olympics looks even better!
(Original story: Sept. 16 @ 9:30 am) - Darryl Reuter’s first tattoo is going to be a doozie.
The Kelowna realtor took to social media last Wednesday to announce that he was issuing a challenge to his family, friends and others.
If Reuter could hit $10,000 in donations towards motionball Marathon of Sport, an annual fundraiser for Special Olympics Canada, he would get a tattoo.
It won’t just be any tattoo either, it’ll be a 10-inch by 10-inch fire breathing unicorn, which is the name of the team he plays for in motionball each year.
“Seeing the amazing athletes and their gratefulness, and all the amazing organizers and all the work they put in, has compelled me to swing for the fences this year,” he wrote.
On Saturday morning, Reuter hit his fundraising goal and the number continues to climb as he’s now at $11,323.
