Police arrested a knife-wielding suspect after the man allegedly chased a stranger during the early morning hours of Thursday in Kelowna.

On November 16th, at 12:30 a.m., Kelowna RCMP general duty officers responded to a 911 emergency call in the 300 block of Highway 33 West for a report of a male who had just been chased by another male who allegedly uttered verbal threats and was seen wielding a knife.

Police were provided with a detailed description of that suspect and began their search of the immediate area.

“Officers located an intoxicated individual matching their suspect’s description, not far from the scene. He was taken into police custody without further incident,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “A search of the suspect, incidental to his arrest, resulted in the seizure of two knives.”

The victim, a Kelowna man in his 20’s, was not injured during the event. He was provided with access to RCMP Victim Services.

A 30-year-old Kelowna man was held in police custody overnight. He faces potential charges related to the incident.

Police believe that the incident unfolded along Highway 33 West between Dougall Rd and Rutland Rd and are now asking for additional witnesses to come forward. If you witnessed this incident and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to contact Cst. Solana Paré of the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
