Residents have been invited to review design and construction details for new bike lanes being installed along Sutherland Avenue and Ethel Street.

The projects, which are expected to be completed by late fall 2019, will be begun in the spring and early summer.

The City of Kelowna is overseeing the programs to boost the connectivity and safety of transport in the area.

Work on the first phase of Sutherland Avenue will extend from Lake Avenue to Ethel Street and will include a protected two-way bike lane, traffic signal upgrades, better street lights and the replacement of the sidewalk between Richter and Ethel.

The next phase of Ethel Street, between Sutherland Avenue and Springfield Road, will include bike lanes, sidewalk modifications and street lighting.

Gordon Foy, the transportation engineering manager, said: “Sutherland Avenue is positioned well for protected bike lanes.

“New protected bike lanes will expand our active transportation corridor network, providing a safe and convenient east-west route between Ethel and Abbott streets.”

Those interested in reviewing the designs of the plans can attend an information session on Thursday, Feb. 28 between 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at A.S. Matheson Elementary School.
