The sun has returned, the snow has gone – it’s as good a time as any to hop on your bike.
Kelowna residents are being urged to follow in the tire tracks of thousands of people who decided to help themselves and the environment by cycling to work or school.
Registration is now open for 2019’s Bike to Work and School Week, which officially kicks off on May 27 and ends on June 2.
“Whether you’re a year-round cyclist or brand new to biking, Bike to Work and School Week is a great time to challenge yourself and others to get around the community by bike,” Matt Worona, active transportation coordinator for the City of Kelowna, said.
“On top of the awesome prizes and events that take place during the week, your health and the environment are also winners.”
Last year, 2,300 residents – including 557 who classed themselves as new cyclists – took part in the special week.
They logged 86,000 kilometres and saved on close to 19,000 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions.
“Last year we had record-breaking numbers of participants – let’s try to top those numbers this year,” Worona added.
