Cooking Easter dinner at home may be a handful, but Kelowna's Gospel Mission served hundreds on Saturday for their Easter Dinner and they had fun.

Kelowna's Gospel Mission (KGM) has been working to feed the hungry since the mid-1980's and their 2019 Easter dinner did just that.

Matthew Reimer, the KGM kitchen coordinator, has worked with the organization for six years and contributed in almost 20 dinners similar to this one, saying that it's a good opportunity for the community.

“For the guests, they get an extra special meal. They don’t have a home to go to this weekend, so for them just the feeling of being at home makes it special," said Reimer.

In addition to filling the hearts and belly's of diners, Reimer welcomed a great group of volunteers eager to fuel up on the gratification of giving back.

"I have eight volunteers in my kitchen right now and they just get to connect with the guests, it’s just awesome watching all that happen,” said Reimer.

At around 3:30 p.m. Reimer estimated that he had served between 400-500 guests, but anticipated approximately 800 before the day's end at 6 p.m.

Everyone was welcomed to enjoy the turkey, mashed potatoes, ham, vegetables, gravy and cranberry sauce for this traditional meal, which took the team about a month to prepare for.
