The Happy Hostel celebrated their grand opening this afternoon at 1829 Chandler St.

From noon to 3 p.m. Okanagan residents were invited to check-out the facility, enjoy an outdoor barbeque, cold beverages and mingle amongst the owners and other visitors.

This one of a kind Hostel is located a mere seven minutes from Downtown Kelowna and located near to a variety of amenities such as the Parkinson Recreation Centre, Brown's Social House, Dakoda's Sports Bar and Grill, Starbucks and Orchard Garden Plaza.

"The Happy Hostel is the only high-end private hostel [in Kelowna]," said Doug MacKenzie, owner of The Happy Hostel.

The facility has eight private bedrooms each with a 49-inch T.V. and free WiFi and Netflix. The facility also includes two kitchen spaces with brand new appliances, three bathrooms, two laundry rooms, two living spaces, an outdoor barbecue, a balcony and an outdoor movie room.

"When seven or eight people want to come and stay here from out of town they can rent the whole place," explained MacKenzie.

As Kelowna's peak summer months arrive, hotel rates increase but the Happy Hostel's rates remain between $99 to $125 per night.

"We want to create such a neat experience," said MacKenzie.

Although a hostel was not the original intention for the space, MacKenzie and his wife said, "It was meant to be."
