It may be a little early for the boating season, but the city is advising all residents that the boat launch on Water Street will be getting a “refresh” this spring.
A complete renewal and replacement of the boat launch’s existing “end-of-life” floating docks begins on April 2.
The dock and launch areas will remain open between April 2 and April 5, however there will be modified access, a release from the city says.

However, partial closures may be required while crews prepare the site for the work.
The revamp will see the dock and launch areas completely closed for about two weeks beginning Monday, April 8 to allow for the decommissioning of existing floating docks and piles, the release explains.
That will be followed by the installation of new floating and fixed docks.
“The project aims to improve public safety, accessibility, promote a long service life, and deliver low-maintenance construction consistent with current environmental regulations,” said Ryan Esbjerg, Project Technician.
Fees collected from commercial users during the 2022 and 2023 season will help cover the costs associated with the maintenance, upkeep and improvement of the Water Street boat launch as well as the ones on Cook Road and at Sutherland Bay.
Kelowna City Council approved the implementation of fees for commercial users at those three boat launches in February 2022.
In August 2023, city council was told that the program brought in about $34,000 more than expected in 2022.
The city says in the release that dredging work is now complete and boaters can access the Cook Road boat launch while Water Street facilities are closed.
