A brand new 103.9 FM is on the air in Kelowna.

In recent days, 103.9 The Lake went off the air and was replaced with Pattison Media’s newest station, OV 103-9.

It’s a transition that was long in the making after Pattison acquired the station from Paul Larsen last summer when the CRTC changed its policy to allow one entity to own up to three radio stations in a single market.

While that deal was struck in August, the transition from 103.9 The Lake to OV 103-9 just happened earlier this week.

OV 103-9’s tagline is That ‘70s Station and it will play the greatest hits from the ‘60s and ‘70s, as well as have local news broadcast at the top of every hour.

“Traditional radio serves a 25-54 age demo. We’ve built the new OV 103-9 to satisfy the over-50 demo in the valley with music they remember,” explained Karl Johnston, GM. “OV 103-9 is a contemporary radio station that reflects this audience's active lifestyle.”

“Listeners told us they wanted to hear big hits, a big music library, and hourly local news and community information; it’s like the radio this audience remembers,” adds program director Corey Fischer. “OV 103-9 has the news you need and music you remember - for the first time together on FM, on-line and streaming,”

Fischer says the new station is built around the music that makes the audience “feel good by feeling young.”

If you tune into OV 103-9, you can expect to hear hits from Elton John, Chicago, ABBA, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Simon & Garfunkel, the Rolling Stones, Beach Boys and the Beatles.

You can, of course, find it at 103.9 on the FM dial or online at OV1039.ca.
