It may be warm and sunny out, but Kelowna residents are asked to stay off the city’s sports fields for a little longer.

Spring officially arrived today, but sports fields will remain closed after a cool and snowy winter.

“Sports fields require extra care after a long winter season,” said a release from The City.

“The City will be testing irrigation systems and cultivating quality turf to avoid divots and holes which can lead to player injuries.”

That means residents and sports-enthusiasts will have to hold out a little longer to use fields, but it shouldn’t be more than a couple of weeks.

Ball diamonds are scheduled to open on Friday, April 5 and the remaining sports fields will follow suit on Monday, April 8, weather permitting.

For now, only the Apple Bowl Track is currently open to the public.
