If you’re looking to kick a ball or toss a frisbee around now that the weather is getting nice, you’ll have to do it somewhere that isn’t a sports field.

Cool temperatures and the late season snowfalls are keeping the city’s sports fields closed until mid-April.

Residents are reminded to stay off the fields until they’re officially open for the spring sports season.

The fields need an appropriate amount of time to dry out and the grass needs to be actively growing to ensure the best quality turf for the summer.

The Apple Bowl Track is currently open, ball diamonds are scheduled to open on April 6 and the remaining fields should open on Saturday, April 14, weather permitting.

Teams on the hunt for a place to play in the meantime can call 250-469-8827 to book space on an artificial turf field.
