Lauryn Wachter represented the Okanagan spectacularly over the weekend.
From a field of 10,000 that was weeded down to 235 finalists, Wachter ended up with a top three finish in a provincial French public speaking competition, Concours d'art oratoire.
Concours d'art oratoire is a pan-Canadian French public speaking competition -- an estimated 85,000 students participate annually across Canada.
Student participants choose, develop, and present a three to five minute speech, en français, on any subject or theme that interests them.
"Concours is a fabulous celebration of excellence in French language education,” explained Diane Tijman, president of Canadian Parents for French BC & Yukon.
“Through participation in Concours, students develop confidence in French as well as develop their public speaking skills.”
This year marked the 35th anniversary of the Concours d'art oratoire and the provincial finals were hosted on Saturday at SFU Surrey.
Wachter, a a grade 11 Kelowna Secondary Student, earned the third place finish with her reading of “L’émotion colorisée.”
