A Kelowna family’s world has been turned upside down as one of its members fights for her life in Vancouver General Hospital.
Erin Tannar, a Kelowna Secondary School student, was out with friends on Saturday night when she started to complain of headaches.
The source of those headaches was a massive hemorrhage in the teenager’s brain, which caused her to lose consciousness and start seizing.
After being rushed to Kelowna General Hospital, she was flown to VGH overnight when doctors began to suspect she may have Arteriovenious Malformation.
A GoFundMe created for Erin explains that she’s had two brain surgeries in an effort to stop swelling and reduce blood pressure.
“We are optimistic that she will live, but there is no guarantee,” says a message from her mother included in the GoFundMe post. “I am numb.”
“They will keep her in a deep deep coma until the brain swelling goes down. Her entire body functioning is supported with machines.”
Her mom says Erin was greatly looking forward to prom at KSS in May and now they’re just praying she lives.
While she fights for her life, the family is waiting on the next step in Vancouver and will be there for a while.
Meanwhile, the 17-year-old's friends in Kelowna are planning on dying their hair pink in support of Erin, who dyed her hair pink just a few days before this all happened.
"Erin is one of the most positive and caring people I have ever met and she does not deserve this. Nobody does," explains her friend Sam Hodges, the creator of the GoFundMe.
The GoFundMe was created to support her family while they are away from home and hoping for the best possible outcome for Erin.
