A Kelowna resident is warning others after an encounter downtown on Friday night forced her to call the police.
Jenna Johnson was walking home from work at around 6 p.m. that evening along Water St. when she was approached by a stranger.
The man ended up chasing Johnson into her apartment building after following her home.
Johnson says she was outside her apartment when a man who was walking down the road going the opposite direction stopped in his tracks and began to stare at her. He then began following her home, asking personal questions, such as ‘Where do you live?’
“I just continued to walk and I was like, ‘I’m not telling you where I live,’” says Johnson. “He looked like a normal dude.”
Johnson says that at the time her neighbour was sitting outside on the porch smoking, and she stopped to tell him about the strange man.
“He told me to hurry and get inside, so I went in through the side door instead of going in the front door.”
By the time Johnson had gotten into the upstairs hallway of her building, her neighbour was there telling her to get into her apartment. He had watched the man try to chase after her into the building, even after Johnson’s neighbour yelled at him to leave her alone.
Johnson says that she reported it to the police and they did a patrol of the area but were unable to locate the man. NowMedia has reached out the Kelowna RCMP for comment.
“I just want to get it out because I want people to be aware and be careful,” says Johnson.
She posted a description of the man on Facebook, hoping to warn others, as a few of her friends have also had similar encounters in the past month.
“He was a normal looking dude,” says Johnson. “It could be anybody, and everybody should be careful.”
He is described as a white male, long wavy hair, late 20s or early 30s, dark blue or gray shirt, and about 6 feet tall.
