(UPDATE: Nov. 7 @ 4:10 pm) – Over 1,000 people from healthcare workers to mothers stood with signs in a peaceful protest in Harvey Ave’s pedestrian bridge to speak against the vaccine mandate.
“Coercion and not consent is not right, and this is a government-led mandate where the government is saying do it or you're going to lose your livelihood,” says LPN Laura Clark, who has been in healthcare for 18 years.
The crowd was organized by a group of concerned allied health care professionals made up of dentists, chiropractors, naturopathic doctors, RMTs, and many more, a member of the rally organizer told KelownaNow.
Many wore blue as a sign of unity and said they support the freedom of choice for everybody.
“Everybody deserves the right to choose and not to be forced,” says Orlo Powell, who has worked as a dentist for 41 years.
(Original Story: Nov. 7 @ 4 pm ) – A large crowd has hit the streets by Parkinson Recreation on Harvey Avenue to protest the current vaccination mandates required for provincial service employees.
The crowd is gathered to "stand in solidarity against mandates" in a United Workers' peaceful protest.
On Oct. 26, Kelowna nurses and healthcare workers also took to the pedestrian bridge that crosses the highway by the Landmark Centre.
They were protesting the mandate that requires healthcare workers to be vaccinated by Nov. 15 or they face termination without any severance.
Earlier in October, the province announced that “all 30,000 public service employees in British Columbia will have to be fully vaccinated by Nov. 22.”
