Earlier this month, Kelowna City Council gave the green light for the Stuart Park rink to open this year with COVID-19 protocols in place.

It was scheduled to open up for the season on Dec. 1, but that will have to be pushed back at least six days.

The City of Kelowna says the latest public health orders, which are in place in the BC Interior until at least Dec. 7, have forced them into wait-and-see mode.

“We will continue to keep our rink operation plans flexible to align with Provincial direction and will use our phased operational model to open the rink in a safe and adapted manner when it is deemed appropriate to do so.” says Doug Nicholas from the City.

“We’ll be keeping a close eye on the latest updates from the Province and will reassess our opening timeline based on the information provided.”

The City hopes to open the rink after Dec. 7, but it will all depend on further direction surrounding recreation facilities when it’s outlined by the provincial government.

The release of Kelowna’s Winter 2021 Activity & Program Guide has also been postponed for the same reasons and the City is awaiting more direction from the Province before releasing the guide to the public.
