Some local Grade 9 students spent the day acting as temporary RCMP employees.

As part of National Take Our Kids to Work Day, the students spent Wednesday at the Kelowna RCMP Detachment.

The initiative exposed students to diverse career opportunities within the force, from emergency response to forensics.

"The day’s activities brought police work to life and gave kids a sense of what's possible with the RCMP," said Cst. Lesley Smith, School Resource Officer.

“Students were involved in active Police scenarios which required the use of the Police Dog Services, Forensic Identification Unit, the Operations Communication Centre and many more RCMP Resources."

The day's schedule included demonstrations and presentations from a variety of departments, lunch with the members of the Tactical Troop and Emergency Response Team and the chance to interact with other men and women of the force.

The event happens annually on the first Wednesday of November for students from a variety of schools who have a connection or family member with the Kelowna Detachment and Southeast District Head Quarters.
